Tech Meetup Freiburg

On November 17th, I had the pleasure of attending the first Tech Meetup in Freiburg. I’m not sure, but I think, this is one of the first on-site events I joined again since quite some time. The event promised inspiring talks and discussions and I must say, the event exceeded my expectations!

...

The event was held at one of the Grünhof Co-Working locations, which was located right at the Augustinerplatz in Freiburg. The modern and beautifully furnished space is also the home of Futurice Freiburg. I had worked with Futurice a few years ago in Berlin and like to remember their great event and company culture. We had some really nice afterwork events in Berlin, I still remember as if it was yesterday.

The event was hosted and announced on Meetup.com by Alex Röhm from the Scrum User Group and Markus Leidinger from Futurice. They welcomed the attendees and introduced the two speakers for the evening - Andreas Harter from JobRad and Johannes Spohr from Futurice.

Conversations»

...

Johannes Spohr’s talk, “Crucial Conversations for Developers - With the Right Mindset, Communicate Better,” was a soft-skills talk. He talked about how effective communication is crucial for good team performance. He shared practical techniques and maybe even some personal examples that could help to understand the importance of good communication. It is always good to hear a talk with a focus on the human side of our tech business.

Zero Downtime»

...

Andreas Harter’s talk, “Zero Downtime Database Migration,” discussed the common practice of planned downtime in computer systems, which can be frustrating for customers and negatively affect user experience. He shared his insights on how to avoid planned downtime through database migrations and how they can be performed during the day while the system is running. And because they are doing this at Jobrad, the discussion afterwards could really profit from his first hand experiences.

A Perfect Blend»

...

The mix of technical and soft-skills talks was a hit with the attendees. It was great to see people from different backgrounds and industries come together to learn and share their experiences. The attendees were enthusiastic and eager to exchange ideas and get to know each other better.

In summary, the first Tech Meetup in Freiburg was a huge success! It was a great opportunity to learn from experts in the field and to connect with like-minded people. I am looking forward to attending future events and seeing how the Tech Meetup community in Freiburg grows.
